Take a look at the American Pitbull Photos-2 that have been sent in by our visitors
Thanks to everyone who sent in your American Pitbull photos-2. I believe that if the majority of people could see this side of the American Pitbull splashed across the headlines they would have an entiley different opinion about them. That is one of my goals in publishing these photos so please keep sending them in to me at
American Pitbull Photos-2.
Also, if you have stories/photos about your pitbulls that you think would help to showcase this beautiful breed then please send them in. I am interested in American pitbull photos and stories about pitbulls that have shown themselves to be true heros either through performing search and rescues, alerting owners of danger, working as crime prevention partners, therapy dogs etc. I am also looking for stories about pitbulls that have been rescued themselves and are now living as loyal family members. If you are interested in helping with this project to help portray a more honest image of these dogs then please submit your American Pitbull photos and stories on the

Savanna and Brisco
Dudley and Daisy: Talk about saved in the knick of time!

Elayne,
I have enclosed a few pictures of my babies. Dudley is the large brown male he was my first 'pitbull' he is the most gentle angel that has ever lived on this earth. He loves other dogs, and wants to play no matter what size they are. If a small dog is near him, he will lay down so that he is the same size as the small dog. He thinks he is a lap dog to begin with but to see him try to make himself small is so cute. I live in a large apartment complex and most people here know Dudley. When you first see him is size is quite intimidating, he weighs in at about 105 lbs. But to spend 5 minutes with him and you realize that he is just a big ole baby. He is definitely a mamma's boy and he is now 7 years old. he was 8 weeks old when I got him.
Daisey is my kill shelter rescue, while playing on the web one day trying to find out as much information as I could find about pitbulls,This was back in 2000 and I was surprised at how little there was then. I came across a web site for a kill shelter located about 100 miles from my home. I was just going to quickly look around to see if they had any useful links and go on to the next web site as I didn't want to see all the sad pictures. But curiosity got the best of me and I had to look. I looked at a few pictures and then noticed one that showed this little peanut of a dog all sad and lonely and on the picture they had imposed the words "to be euthanized at 1p.m 2/11/01. I looked at my watch and it was 10:15 a.m I grabbed Dudley and my daughter and off we were to just go "look at the dogs" meanwhile I had brought a copy of my mortgage with me to show that I owned my house. I arrived at the shelter at 12:40 and went right to her cage as if I had been there before and knew where she was. She was in a freezing cold cinder block room, that they hosed down to clean, the floor was wet and cold and she was in the cell shaking like crazy, she looked at me but did not move I said "come to momma baby" and that was all it took she was over to the gate in a flash and with butt wiggling, i thought she would brake in half she was wiggling so hard and all kisses. I brought her out to the visiting section and she met Dudley for the first time, she went up to him and gave him a big lick and I decided then and there that I was going to take her home. I went to the counter and told the women that I wanted to adopt this dog. She looked at the number on her collar and told me that I couldn't. What? She pointed to her cage and at a note that had the time and date the same one I had seen on the web site. "She is next on the list and the Doctor is here, " she started to walk away and told me to pick another dog. Well that was not going to happen so I went to another worker there and again this man told me the same thing. I pulled the note of the cage and threw it away and said "Now she is off the list and I want to adopt her". I think just to get rid of me and after speaking with the doctor, they told me "there is not returning her" as if I would to that place. She has been with me now for over 6 1/2 years and is still my little peanut she is built like a brick house but is very short compared to Dudley. She is definitely the boss of the house, and has no problem taking Dudley's bones right out of his mouth and eating them in front of him while laying on her own so he can't get it. She is still a baby, if it's dark out side she has to have either a squeaky or a dollie in her mouth. I think it makes her feel tougher, the neighbors all laugh she will pull me up to them with the whole body wiggling to show them her dollie. I call her my one woman welcoming committee, any person she sees has to say hi to her. she wiggles her way into your heart.
I am currently trying to organize a walk to protest Breed specific Legislation in my area. I don't just talk the talk I walk the walk. I am very big on helping people to see the good side of these dogs. I take them to the dog park near my house and let people see them interact with other dogs and people. I too have had the experience of people playing with them while Daisey is licking them to death, or Dudley is playing with their dog they ask what kind of dog and when I tell them they pull away or pick up their dog like all of a sudden Dudley is going to swallow the dog whole or Daisey is going to take off your face. " Yes she is just licking you to tenderize your skin before she bites it. "
I could go on and on about these wonderful animals but I am sure that you Will get thousands of letters from people just like me. So I will say goodbye for now and wish you success on your book and your work with educating people on these wonderful dogs.
Demona and Gauge: brought together by chance, held together by love
Gauge is sporting this years fashion in his bunny ears and Demona is a diva in her Easter bonnet.
After hearing about www.pitbulls-fighting-for-their-lives.com, Cindy from Roxie's Fund Rescue contacted Joy and suggested that she share her rescue story with all of us. Joy rescued Gauge from Roxie's Fund Rescue about 4 years ago. Gauge escaped his looming fate of joining the countless number of Pitbulls who are euthanized everyday and has gone onto becoming an AKC Canine Good Citizen and a loving Therapy Dog.
You can visit Gauge's myspace at
www.myspace.com/pitbulltherapy
and if your in the Pittsburgh area and would like to request a visit from Gauge you can contact Joy through her myspace page.
Demona was rescued from a local humane society at about 2yrs old and 20 pounds under weight. She had whelped puppies withing 2 days of being droppef off at the shelter, her previous owner states that all the puppies died. She suffered from sores (the equivalent to bed sores). She does have health conditions as a result of her neglect such as arthritis, hypothyroid, UT issues, but all are being well managed with medication and the love she receives from Joy. Although we don't know the results of the trial her pervious owners faced Joy was assured that all other animals had been confiscated from them.
As much as Demona would love to join Gauge with his therapy work, she is just so excited to meet people, no doubt due to her being denied the loving care she deserved with her last owner, she becomes to excited to visit the frail.

Neo and baby Aiden: A pictures worth a thousand words

Kylie

I am sending you these pictures of my baby Kylie and 3 of her friends, as I too am a responsible dog-owner who deals with BSL every day of my life. In fact, even more so than most, as I have the misfortune of living in Ontario Canada - where BSL has been enacted province-wide.
I am an educated, law-abiding, tax-paying, home owner who is fluently bilingual (Englis/French) and who works full-time, yet I am looked upon as a quasi-criminal for no valid reason whatsoever! I am apparently one of "THOSE PEOPLE" who own a "ticking time-bomb" (in the words of the Attorney General of this province).
But on to the point of this e-mail...Kylie: a.k.a. Pig, Mrs, Pigglesworth and/or Kyla-Bug or Kyla-Boo.
Kylie was scheduled to be euthanized in 2 days when my husband & I adopted her. She was at a municipal pound, and no-one else would take a chance on her merely because of her breed. She is beyond wonderful with children, the family cat & her 2 canine brothers. She even assists in the babysitting of an autistic friend of the family - in short, her disposition is amazing!
Every day, Kylie proves herself as a great ambassador to the so-called Bully Breeds. We are truly blessed to have her as a part of our family. Despite her "terrifying" snoring, she continues to turn heads & make ignorant & biased people think twice about their preconceived notions re: Pit bulls!
Kylie does not realize that she is literally one in 600 - that for some reason she has been given a chance while, statistically, at least 599 other "Pit bulls" are executed in shelters across North America every day...I only hope that we are in some small measure worthy of her special brand of fierce and undying lovalty & love!
Pit bull, Poodle - same DNA!!!
