The following news story is not about Michael Vick. It is a sobering reminder that he is not the only person out there that participates in the cruel act of abusing and/or neglecting animals. We have heard about him because his story comes with a famous name but there are thousands of other owners committing the same horrendous acts. There are thousands of Pitbulls that don’t care if the hand that delivers the painful blow is that of a famous person or not. They are no less deserving of being rescued than the fore-mentioned. I am glad that the dogs seized from Vick have got the attention they did but I would also plead that the sense of urgency not end there. There are numerous shelters across the county with thousands of pitbulls that have suffered the same degree of cruelty as Vicks dogs and the shelters need your help. These dogs are putting a strain on their resources and forcing them to made choices that otherwise might have a different outcome. If you don’t have financial support to offer then please think of other ways to help them. They all need blankets, food, pooper scoopers, volunteers and of course money. Please offer whatever you can to help them care for these dogs, a majority of which have never felt the gentle touch of human compassion. This video has provoked a lot of different reactions. Many people feel that they don’t need this side of life shoved in their faces; they know what happens to dogs that go into shelters. I believe that we need it shoved in our faces until we put an end to it.

Vick pleads guilty to dog fighting
A couple of letters that were sent to Mr. Goodell in response to Michael Vicks standing with the NFL
Good Morning Mr. Goodell,
I applaud your recent efforts in upholding and enforcing the League's
Conduct Policy. As a football fan, dog lover, and simply a decent
human being with a conscience, I implore you to ban Michael Vick from
playing for, working with, or representing the NFL in any capacity
for the rest of his life.
Any plea bargain to avoid a lengthy prison sentence would fall under
the Conduct Policy section titled, "Persons Convicted of Criminal
Activity." The policy states, "Such discipline may include a fine,
suspension without pay and/or banishment from the League."
Please make a definitive statement that "NFL" stands for National
Football League and not the National Felons League by banishing
Michael Vick.
Thank you,
Melinda Fayette
Milford, MA
Dear Mr. Goodell,
I urge you to ban Michael Vick from all further connection with the NFL for life -- not on the serious, but less horrific charge of gambling, but because of the mounting evidence that he is involved in dogfighting. Perhaps then I will be able to watch the upcoming season without being haunted by images of injured dogs fighting to the death.
I'm a dog-lover, and one of our beloved, family pets is a pit bull. Learning that one of the NFL's most skilled and most entertaining players has been indicted for interstate trafficking and conspiracy in connection with dogfighting sickens me.
I'm also a long-time fan of the NFL, going back even before 1963, when Pete Rozelle suspended Paul Hornung and Alex Karras for a year because of allegations of gambling. I know that sometimes it's necessary for the Commissioner to take drastic action for the good of the sport and for the good of the business.
Although Michael Vick is due his day in court as a matter of law, his continued association with the NFL is in your hands.
I urge you to act immediately.
Yours truly,
Dave Morefield
